Here in Walnut Creek we are surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and vast open space. With places like Sugarloaf Open Space and Howe Homestead Park, there are so many places to go hiking. Hiking is a fun, free activity that gives you the chance to explore nature around you, exercise and improve health, and take cool pictures.
Some great hiking spots nearby include Mt. Diablo State Park, Briones Regional Park, Las Trampas Regional Wilderness, Howe Homestead Park, and Shell Ridge Open Space. Spring is a great time to go as these hiking destinations offer beautiful scenery, including California’s state flower, the poppy, starting to bloom and animals enjoying the spring greenery.
Another popular hiking spot is Grizzly Peak, which, at its peak, offers impressive views of the Berkeley and Oakland Hills, Bay Bridge, and Golden Gate Bridge. In Fremont, Mission Peak Trail is around 6 miles of green landscape and cows milling about. Once you reach the top, there is a statue to pose in front of along with a great view of the city.
