Colby Allard Commits to Chico State

Senior Colby Allard has committed to play mens soccer at Chico State University, which has one of the top Division 2 schools for soccer in the NCAA. They just came off of a 13-6-1 season, and reached the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2013. Allard, who plays winger and forward said, “Chico showed interest in me at Surf Cup around a month ago, and I found out from my coach and the Chico coach.” The Surf Cup is a nationally recognized soccer tournament held in southern California in July every year. Chico State was not the only school to show interest in Allard. Humboldt State, UC Davis, Sonoma State, San José State, and Sacramento State were also very interested in Allard. Colby says he chose Chico because, “They offered me a spot first and I liked their program and they are one of the highest-ranked [division 2] schools, also, the coach wanted everyone to be successful after college and would help along with that”.

Allard still has his senior soccer season to play at Las Lomas.

Last season, the team had an impressive 18-2-5 season, and had 3 players named all-league. The team was extremely good at defense, as they had 16 games where their opponent scored no points at all. The teams offense was also a force to be reckoned with. They scored 55 goals all season averaging 2.2 goals per game.  They also did not lose a single league game going 8-0-4. However, they did not win the league title as Campolindo went 10-2, winning two more games than the Knights. Allard said he is still improving for his final season. “I think that I need to improve getting the whole team involved work on my leadership and my playing in general,” Allard said. As always, the team looks to win the NCS title and qualify for the CIF state playoffs. Their season ended last year in the NCS semifinals in an overtime game against Richmond 2-1. “We lost some key players from last year, but I think that this year we will be able to focus on the team more and have more energy for the NCS title,” Allard said.

However the season goes, Chico State will be very fortunate to have a player like Allard, as he and the entire Las Lomas mens soccer team will surely have a great season. Our community wishes them the best of luck.
