On Friday, the Knights beat Miramonte at home, 54-45. The Knights were up by double-digits for most of the game, and despite a comeback late in the game, the Knights were able to pull away for the win. They shot well from deep, hitting eight threes to the Mats’ five. Casey Cappo’s 13, Zach Patterson’s 12, and David Tibbetts’s 11 led the Knights’ offense.
Coach Rockwell was present at the game, but was sick, so Assistant Coach Ryan Spiegel took the helm for the game. He was the head JV coach last year, and the head freshman coach the year before.
When asked, Coach Spiegel admitted that this was his first time coaching a regular season varsity basketball game, but he had some experience in the summer coaching the varsity team. He told us that his daily work with Coach Rockwell gave him a solid idea of how Rockwell wants the team to perform.
“We played great team basketball and our effort and energy levels were really high. We had a lot of fouls that were not necessary, which put a few of our key guys in foul trouble,” he answered when asked about the team’s overall performance.
Although he has been climbing the coaching ladder over the last few years, Coach Spiegel likes where he is now as the Assistant Coach, and isn’t looking to continue his climb.
