The 2010 decade was a crazy ten years full of a lot of amazing movies like The Avengers, Avengers: Endgame, La La Land, Spiderman: Far From Home, and several Disney movies like Frozen, Inside Out, and the live action Lion King.
Marvel has skyrocketed in popularity this decade. Its three best sellers were Avengers, Avengers: Endgame, and Spiderman: Far From Home. The first Avengers movie came out on May 4, 2012, and tickets sold out all over the world as soon as the movie hit theaters. The movie ended up making over 1.5 billion dollars. Another great movie by Marvel was Avengers: Endgame. As soon as it was released in April 2019, people rushed to see it. It won plenty of awards such as: MTV’s Best Villain Award, People’s Choice Award for Best Movie, and a Teen choice award. On June 26, 2019, the second installment of Tom Holland’s Spiderman franchise, Spiderman: Far From Home was released, and made a huge profit of over 1.1 billion dollars.
La La Land, a film that walked away from the Oscars with six winnings, was released in 2016 and took five years to make. Today, it is still one of the most frequently watched movies ever. At the Golden Globes 2017, La La Land was wrongfully announced as the winner and lost to Moonlight, a movie about a black man whose devotion to his community helps guide him through manhood.
Disney had great success over the last ten years, coming out with bestsellers such as Frozen, Inside Out (Disney’s Pixar), and the live action Lion King. Frozen, released on February 3, 2013, made over 1 billion dollars at the box office. This film also won five Annie Awards, including Best Animated Features. At the Academy Awards, Frozen became the first film by Disney Studios to win an Academy Award. Inside Out, a pixar film, made more than 857 million dollars in the US alone. This movie won many awards such as the Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globes Best Animated Awards and more. The last of many great successes Disney had over the decade was recreating the classic film The Lion King. This movie dropped on July 19, 2019, and made over 1 billion dollars. The movie built up a lot hype before it was released.
Although hundreds of movies were released over the past decade, a few stood out for their box-office-breaking creativity and popularity. Marvel’s huge successes with the Avengers franchise and the newest spiderman movie: Spiderman: Far From Home only added to the superhero craze. La La Land was also a sellout throughout the nation. Lastly, Disney never fails to put out great movies, especially with masterpieces like Frozen, Inside Out, and the newest remake of The Lion King. If the 20’s have movies that were as popular as those in the 2010’s, then it will be a decade to come.
