Twinkie Cereal Review

“The snack cake golden child is now a cereal!” Boasts the snack cake company Hostess on the back of their Twinkie Cereal. We all know the classic spongey and creamy twinkies, but how on earth would they turn something like that into a cereal and what would it taste like?

I find the detail that best describes the cereal is the fact that it doesn’t get wet. The outside will get a little moist, but the inner part stays rock hard, and I really mean rock hard. When you eat the cereal with a spoon of milk, the dry center and the milk forms a weird paste that sticks to the top of your mouth, very similar to Cap’n Crunch. So the overall texture isn’t a very pleasant experience.

But what about taste? It tastes really similar to actual twinkies, to the point that it’s almost uncanny. It’s super unusual to be eating something that’s super crunchy but tastes like a pastry.

Now I’ve made it clear what it’s like to eat with milk, but what about if you were to snack on it while it’s dry? To be honest, it isn’t even that bad. The cereal has a soft, powder-like coating around it that gives it its taste, which is only noticeable when you eat it right out of the box.

After covering the texture and taste, I give my overall experience eating Hostess’ Twinkie Cereal a 2 out of 5.
