During these strange times many teenagers find themselves in a sort of endless cycle. Each day of staying home fades into the next, and many people don’t make an effort to make each day different or somewhat exciting. Adjusting to a new normal is difficult, but essential.
It is very important to make each day somewhat exciting in order to stay consistent in obeying the standards set by social distancing rules. This can be done through simple adjustments to your normal day such as hiking new trails, picking up new hobbies, and finding new ways to help out at home.
Like many of my peers, I have become an avid hiker during this quarantine. It gets me out of the house and into nature. I love the feeling and peace of being out in nature and exercising. After a couple of weeks of hiking the same route, I decided to switch up my route more often, making each hike exciting.
My family has also been having family game nights. We play a wide range of games, from card games to outdoor games such as cornhole. Adding a little bit of competition to our day has been really fun and has brought us together.
Another fun addition to my day has been meal planning. As a way to help out around the house while still doing something that I enjoy, I have committed to cooking my family dinner a few times each week. A fun challenge that this quarantine has brought is managing to use as many items in a meal that you already have in your kitchen to avoid unnecessary trips out of the house. Planning and making these meals has not only been fun and challenging, but also rewarding.
