On September 3rd, 2020, Coach Mark Uhrenholt, a member of the Las Lomas Varsity football coaching staff, passed away. The sudden news devastated the Las Lomas football team, as many of the football players and staff, including myself, had developed strong relationships with Coach Uhrenholt throughout the years.
Instead of dwelling on Coach Uhrenholt’s sudden passing, friends and family of Coach Uhrenholt have decided that these days should be spent celebrating Coach’s life instead of mourning his death.
Coach Mark Uhrenholt was a graduate of the former Del Valle Trojans, a star football player, and also a championship-winning wrestler. He became the associate principal at Las Lomas, where he coached football with head coach Doug Longero in his later years.
Coach Uhrenholt was an important member of the Las Lomas football team. On paper, he was the team’s defensive back coach and special teams coordinator; but on the field, he was a leader and mentor for my teammates and me. He pushed the team to do the best we could and would settle for nothing less than 100%. “He set an example with his attitude,” senior defensive back and wide receiver Lance Heinon said, “I had never caught Coach Uhrenholt in a bad mood.”
The team has dedicated the 2020-2021 football season to Coach Uhrenholt and plans on having a special tribute for him on their football helmets this season.
Fly high, Coach. “Once a Knight, always a Knight.” -Coach Mark Uhrenholt
