Should Students Have the Option to Stay Remote?

By Sofia Mantua

Students have been back to in-person school for a while now. After the hybrid schedule was released, only about half of Las Lomas students chose to go back to school. Many students found it easier to learn remotely, and many who tried in-person learning switched back to remote after attending. Next year, however, students might not have the option to do fully remote learning. After adjusting to online school for the past year, some students might struggle going back full time. Most people would agree that online learning and in-person learning are two completely different experiences. Online school is more student-based, while school in person is more teacher-based. Now that the school year is almost over, I think everyone will be curious as to what the new schedule is going to be. After everything that’s happened in the past year, no one can be one hundred percent certain of what the next year is going to look like. So, should students continue to have the option to stay home?

I believe that it would be best for everyone to fully return to school. This would help students pay attention in class and get them back on track. It would also be easier for teachers to not have to balance both  Zoom and in-person students in class. As I said before, no one can be certain as to what’s going to happen. With the vaccine available to almost everyone, I think we can be hopeful that things will return partially to the way they were. This year has been a tough one, and we all deserve something good to happen after everything we’ve been through as a community. Everyone should continue to support one another and listen to what others have to say. We all have our own opinions and go through our own things, and the best we can do is let each other know that we’re here.
