NEWS ALERT: MEMBERS FROM WOMENS’ TENNIS ADVANCE TO NCS

Las Lomas Community:

Almost a week ago, the Las Lomas’ girls varsity tennis team competed in the Diablo Athletic League championships. The DAL is the local athletic league that orchestrates all sports-related competitions. You can visit their homepage here or type https://www.dalathletics.com to learn more about any upcoming competitions.

This year is the first time Las Lomas has had two female singles players make it to the finals. The players include winner Eden Fong and the runner-up Mina Koloski. They are the best in DAL, both being undefeated this season. Not only are they considered Las Lomas’ best tennis players, they’re both only sophomores, which means their future in high school tennis is very promising, according to coach Jason Tong.

Fong already qualifies for the North Coast Section, the next step in this tournament, and Tong is working on getting Koloski in the tournament too. The NCS for singles and doubles is going to be played on November 15th, one week from Monday. You can learn more about the competition at https://www.cifncs.org/sports/tennis/index or here. The Page staff and everyone at Las Lomas wishes the best of luck to both the girls.

Joe Biden & Kamala Harris Projected To Win The 2020 Presidential Election

On Saturday the seventh, the Associated Press projected that former Vice President Joe Biden would win the 2020 presidential election, one that had run 4 days longer than anticipated. Biden clinched the projected win with 290 electoral votes, as swing states Pennsylvania and Nevada turned in their numbers. Former Vice President Joe Biden finished in both states with over 30,000 votes in each, causing several major news networks to declare him the 46th president of the United States of America.

As Vice President Elect, Kamala Harris will become the first female African-American and South Asian-American vice president to be elected in American history.  President Donald Trump has not yet come out with a statement regarding his projected loss.

NEWS ALERT: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Died on Friday the 18th

On Friday the 18th, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed suddenly due to complications with metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Ginsburg was recognized as an eminent member of the Supreme Court, dedicating her 27-year term to fighting for women’s rights within the country. But in the wake of her death, a political battle is brewing as to who is going to replace her on the Supreme Court. This decision was not to be made until after the election, but after losing her fifth battle with pancreatic cancer, the process came sooner than most anticipated.

Less than three hours after her passing, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell stated that one of President Trump’s nominees will pass through the Senate, sparking outrage among some members of the public, including Las Lomas students who said that they wished to mourn her before a vote.

“Fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” -Ruth Bader Ginsburg

NEWS ALERT: District Transfers Approved by AUHSD

On Tuesday the 15th, the Acalanes Union High School District approved to reinstate the motion for inter district transfers to be eligible for students living in other areas to transfer into either Las Lomas, Campolindo, Miramonte, or Acalanes High School.

This allows students who do not live in the geographical region of AUHSD to attend one of the AUHSD schools, if meeting the requirements set by the board. The standards vary to whether or not a parent works at an AUHSD school or if another relative is currently enrolled. But according to the policy’s transcript, “the superintendent or designee may deny interdistrict attendance transfer requests….[the district is] not limited to overcrowding within District schools… or limited District resources..”

Within the guidelines, the policy mentions that transfer students will need to apply for renewal about every year. Unless the district, in which the student’s home is based, does not allow their student to transfer out, the motion will allow them access to the AUHSD schools.
