The Oscars are one of the most prestigious social events, featuring the highly coveted red carpet showcase of carefully curated looks put together by celebrity stylists. As we look through history, fashion has remained in constant change. The Oscars provide the perfect opportunity for people to make a statement with their choice of dress. Let’s explore looks that stand out from this year’s attendees.

Starting strong, actress Margot Robbie sported a floor-length black Versace dress adorned with black sequins, reverse scoop neckline, and ruching on her midriff. She accompanied this with a diamond and yellow-gold torsade cuff bracelet designed by Rene Boivin. Robbie originally found the dress from a runway show in Milan during Fashion Week in the Fall/Winter collection and her shoes were custom sandals from Manolo Blahnik.

While Robbie’s look was classic and timeless, I found it slightly underwhelming. The ruching towards her midriff seems to be an odd placement for fabric texture. However, the actual material of the dress was made of a fabric that caused glinting when she moved and was capable of keeping the look interesting in texture. The dress’s silhouette was plain and the color of the neckline was disappointing.

Moving on to another celebrity who stood out, Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence donned Christian Dior Couture; a strapless black dress covered in white polka dots with no sleeves. This piece also included an ample skirt, a corseted bodice, and a matching shawl, with a bateau neckline. She paired this with a diamond Swarovski necklace, a matching tennis bracelet, and a diamond ring. While a polka dot pattern often creates a busy look, the simplicity of the design and cut of the dress created a nice balance that meshed nicely. This paired with a simple classic Hollywood wave hairstyle created an elegant look.

A popular favorite this year was Eva Longoria. Longoria wore an elegant inky-black dress by Tamara Ralph structured with a classic hourglass bodice, including a trailing train that touched the floor. Accessories wise she wore a Bucherer diamond wrap necklace with a statement diamond in the center. It’s important to mention that the shoulder neckline is elevated both figuratively and literally at the shoulders into points combining both abstract and classic looks. The figure and color offered a more classical aspect while the shoulders would be considered the pièce de résistance. This is because all of the other features of the look are simpler like the jewelry and cosmetics which allow for a more dramatic flare that otherwise would have appeared tacky and over the top.

All the celebrities that attended were sporting a different and uniquely stunning look, and these were just a few that stood out to me for their creativity along with their simplicity.
