A look back at Super Bowl LIX

// The Philadelphia Eagles walked away victorious Sunday night after knocking off the two time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. Philadelphia might have come into the game being one and a half point underdogs but they did not show it, putting up 24 points in the first half while Kansas City only managed to gain 23 total yards before halftime. Philadelphia ran away early on while Kansas City tried to recover, but it was too little too late as Philadelphia dominated their way to a 40 to 22 victory.

The story of the night was Philadelphia’s defense. They came away with six sacks, with two sacks from Milton Williams and two and a half sacks from Josh Sweat. As well as three turnovers, including two interceptions, one of which was a pick six from rookie Cooper DeJean and two forced fumbles with one
fumble recovery. Kansas City was held to just 49 rushing yards and 257 passing yards over the course of the night, something that Kansas City has not seen in their last two Super Bowls.
Philadelphia came out strong on offense as well thanks to Jalen Hurts who threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one as well. Hurts passed for over 200 yards and rushed for another 72, more than Kansas City had all night. A performance good enough to earn Hurts the Super Bowl MVP award following the game.

Patrick Mahomes was able to throw for three touchdowns despite his three turnovers. He connected with rookie Xavier Worthy for two of those while Worthy racked up 157 receiving yards. A majority of Kansas City’s offense came from these two but much too late to catch Philadelphia’s 34 point lead.

Just two short years ago Philadelphia lost the Super Bowl to Kansas City. Jalen Hurts claimed they would be back, and they sure were with something to prove. Now Philadelphia will hoist their second ever Lombardi trophy after winning the first in 2018 and they can return to “Fly Eagles Fly” being played in Philadelphia for their parade.
