The long awaited Las Lomas ASB elections have finally come to an end! This year, three out of four offices ran unopposed. Sophomores Cole Bouyea and Zoe Allen held their places as ASB treasurer and secretary, respectively. Junior president Hailey Nelson held her position as well. The real excitement was the battle for vice president, a battle that ensued between Las Lomas juniors Rianna Islam and Sophia Arrieta. Both candidates released campaign videos for voters to watch before making their choice of VP. Islam promoted herself as a confident, organized leader with the slogan “Vote right, vote Rianna”. She added that she is an avid speech and debate as well as leadership student. Her campaign video was built around a parody of the song “Shut Up and Drive” by Rihanna, a commemoration to her own name. She focused her campaign on publicity, with fliers put up in every corner of Las Lomas leading to voting day. Her video also included colorful “Vote Riri” signs and a sparkly poster held by other students. Arrieta went for a slightly different approach. The two candidates had similar videos, but Arrieta focused more on herself as a student. She made a fun, relatable video that included the fact she’s been Las Lomas’ treasurer for two years and hopes to continue with her place in office. She drew attention to her qualities as Las Lomas VP, saying that she was attentive and focused. Arietta has played volleyball and is currently on the lacrosse team. She finished out her video by creating a montage of students wearing sunglasses with “Vote Sophia” painted on the lenses. Both students put forth compelling campaigns and did their best. The results have finally come in, and Rianna Islam will be Las Lomas’ new vice president. Congratulations and well done to both!
